Tech Track & Field Travels to MTSU Invitational

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the MTSU Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 12. This will be the final tune up for Tech before the indoor Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, held in Chapel Hill, N.C., Feb. 17-19.

The 17th-ranked women have six athletes with NCAA Automatic or Provisional qualifying marks. Junior NCAA national champion Chaunte Howard leads the way with an auto mark of 6’2″ in the women’s high jump.

Senior Dana Rogers, sophomore Fatmata Fofanah and freshman Shantia Moss all have provisional times in the 60-meter high hurdles. Rogers leads the ACC with a time of 8.27, Moss is second with a time of 8.32 and Fofanah is fourth with a time of 8.43.

Juniors Brandy Depland and Andriane Lapsley also have provisional marks in the women’s triple jump and 60-meter dash. Depland stands fourth in the ACC in the triple jump (42’5.50″) and Lapsley ranks second in the 60m (7.43).

Sophomore ACC champion Ashlee Kidd continues to lead the conference in the 400 with a NCAA Provisional time of 53.76. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native is currently third in the 200 with a time of 24.15.

On the men’s side, senior Zeb Sion recorded a NCAA provisional mark in the shot put, setting a new school record with a toss of 59’0.75″. The Pocatello, Idaho, native stands fifth in the ACC.

Senior Brian Ford is currently second in the league in the men’s 400-meter dash with a personal-record time of 47.34, set last weekend at the Meyo Invitational. Senior All-ACC performer Kyle Rabbitt competed in his first indoor meet last Saturday and ran the fifth-best time in the league in the 3000 (8:15.55).
