Tech Track and Field Posts Five Wins at Auburn Springtime Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. – Led by a combined five event wins, the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field squads opened their outdoor seasons in impressive fashion Saturday at Auburn’s Springtime Invitational.

On the women’s side, senior Alisha McClinton finished first (13.74) in the 100-meter hurdles, leading a group of Jackets that placed first through fourth in the event. Sophomore Neta Ezer was victorious in the 5000 meters, clocking a time of 17:58.03, while senior Dana Hall won the shot put with a toss of 44’06.25″.

The men won a pair of events, as sophomore Spencer Irvine placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 46’11.50″, and freshman Jonathan Spillman won the shot put in his first collegiate outdoor meet with a throw of 54’04.50″.

Other strong performances on the men’s side came from senior Aaron Sink, who was second in the 400-meter hurdles (53.35), Michael Massey, who placed second in the high jump (6’06.00″) and freshman Zeb Sion, who was second in the shot put (49’09.00″). Freshman Brian Ford was third in the 200 meters and fifth in the 400 meters.

As for the women, sophomore Amandi Rhett was second in the 100 meters (11.72), senior Mishanta Reyes was second in the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Alberta Watkins finished second in the 400-meter hurdles, senior Jennifer Ledbetter placed second in the high jump (5’07.75″) and sophomore Emily Hopkins was second in the javelin (117’00.00″). Junior Cassandra Worthy placed third in both the shot put and discus.

The Jackets return to action Friday, March 22, at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
