Tech To Host Chattanooga In Home Opener

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team will host Chattanooga in its home opener at Glenn Field this Saturday, Feb. 14, at Noon for a non-conference doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets enter this weekend with a 3-1 record after tying for the Mardi Gras Classic Tournament title, upsetting No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-1, on the final day of competition.

Juniors Katie Donovan (Marietta, Ga.) and Jessica Sallinger (Kennesaw, Ga.) and sophomore Lauren Schlechte (St. Louis, Mo.) were all named to the all-tournament team last weekend after leading Tech to a share of the title. Donovan led the Jackets with a .417 batting average, driving in three runs and scoring twice.

Sallinger (2-0) threw a no-hitter against tournament host Louisiana-Monroe in her first appearance, striking out five in five innings of work. and then shut down the ninth-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns in the final day, allowing just three hits and one run, striking out nine.

Schlechte hit .400 over the four-game span, tallying one home run and four RBIs. She started two games at third base and two behind the plate, throwing out the only attempted steal against the Yellow Jackets.

The Rambling Wreck will remain home as Furman travels to Atlanta on Tuesday, Feb. 17, for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. All home games are played at Glenn Field and are free admission. Tech softball games can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
