ATLANTA – Junior Marvin Lewis scored 19 points to lead seven Georgia Tech players in double figure scoring as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Southeast Atlanta All Stars, 110-73, in an exhibition on Sunday afternoon at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Freshman forward Chris Bosh scored 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds to post a double-double in his first collegiate game. Other Yellow Jackets in double figure scoring included B.J. Elder (15 points), Luke Schensher (13), Ed Nelson (12), Jim Nystrom (12) and Isma’il Muhammad (10).

“I thought there were moments where we rotated well and put good pressure on the ball,” said Tech head coach Paul Hewitt. “Chris Bosh has a chance to be a big time force in the lane. He and Luke really established themselves tonight. The more they go out and do this, the more confidence that our guys will have.”

Freshman point guard Jarrett Jack scored just two points in the game, but ran the offense effectively and led the Yellow Jackets with five assists against just one turnover.

“We have to keep working on the offense,” said Hewitt. “I thought we had some mental breakdowns offensively. But we stress defense so much this year, and we really haven’t gone through many dry runs in our offensive sets. The strength of this team has to be on the defensive end of the floor. We are a good shooting team, not quite what we had the last two years. The strength has to be defending and rebounding the ball.”

With Tech leading 21-16 at the 9:52 mark in

Georgia Tech forward Ed Nelson (32) goes up against Southeastern All-Stars’ De’Juan Clark during the first half.

the first half, the Yellow Jackets broke the game open with a 31-11 run over the next eight minutes and led 59-36 at the half. Tech outscored the All-Stars 51-37 in the second half.

Georgia Tech shot 52.4% (43-for-82) from the floor in the game, including 40.9% (9-for-22) from three-point range. Tech out-rebounded the All-Stars, 67-40.

The All-Stars were led by former Georgia player Adrian Jones, who scored 18 points. Former Georgia State star Shernard Long added 15 points while Wallace Prather, who played at Cornell, added 13 points. The All-Stars shot just 29.4% (25-for-85) from the floor in the game.

“I thought we were pretty good defensively for the first 33 minutes,” said Hewitt. “The last seven minutes we just let down. We had the breakdowns that I expected on the back of the press. The physical effort was pretty good once we got a jump start. I thought we were a little sluggish at the start, but that was our first time being out there against a different team.”

The Yellow Jackets will face Nike-Marathon on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in their final exhibition game of the pre-season. Tech opens the regular season on Nov. 23 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
