ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (13-2, 0-1 ACC) will try to extend its home winning streak when it faces Wake Forest (12-4, 0-2) Thursday, Jan. 10. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Fans can follow all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. The game will also be available for viewing on ACCSelect.com.
The Yellow Jackets enter the game having won 16-straight home games dating back to January 4, 2007, when Tech defeated Winston-Salem State, 75-43, to begin the streak. Over this stretch, the Jackets have beaten six Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, including a nationally-ranked Maryland team.
“I know our team is very excited about our ACC home opener,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “It is important to protect your home court during ACC play and our kids learned how to do that last year. I am counting on our senior leadership to guide us and set the tone in effort and energy.”
The Jackets and Demon Deacons will meet for the 53rd time in the mid-week matchup. The Jackets have taken three-straight from the Deacs, including a 58-45 win in Winston-Salem last season. This season, Wake Forest comes in a national leader in scoring defense, leading the ACC and standing fourth in the nation behind Connecticut, Rutgers and LSU.
“Wake Forest is a very good basketball team,” Joseph said. “They are having a good season.”
Tech is coming in off a tough 99-78 road loss to No. 3 North Carolina. The Jackets forced the Tar Heels into 32 turnovers and tied for the fifth-most steals in Georgia Tech history with 22. Junior Jacqua Williams set a new ACC record and tied the school record with 11 steals against Carolina.
It’s “Take A Kid to the Game” night at Georgia Tech. The first 100 fans through Gate 1 will receive a free Georgia Tech women’s basketball replica jersey courtesy of Russell Athletic. Tickets are just $4 for adults and when you buy one adult ticket, you will get one for FREE.
The home-stand continues this weekend, as Tech will battle Miami on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.
