ATLANTA – Georgia Tech softball players Erin Voeltz and Sara Wissmann were named members of the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District III Softball University Division Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The first and second teams were announced Thursday.
A junior from Westlake, Calif., Voeltz was one of two pitchers named to the first team. She owns a 3.72 grade point average as a management major. On the field this season, Voeltz sports a 12-6 record and a 2.66 earned run average. She has tossed four shutouts and has struck out 92 batters this year.
Selected as a second-team outfielder, Wissmann owns a 3.34 GPA also in management. A native of El Dorado Hills, Calif., she is Tech’s starting centerfielder. Wissmann ranks second on the Jackets with eight stolen bases in nine attempts. She has hit two home runs this season and owns 14 runs batted in.
Voeltz and Wissmann are the first Tech players to earn academic all-district honors since 1997. District III is comprised of schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. As a member of the first team, Voeltz now moves on to the ballot for academic All-America honors, which will be announced May 29.
