ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (39-15, 6-2 ACC) will try to snap its four-game losing skid Saturday when it travels to Jacksonville State (32-11, 9-5 Atlantic Sun) for a Noon CT doubleheader. Tech swept a twin bill from the Gamecocks in Atlanta on February 26.
In the earlier meetings, the Jackets took a pair of one-run contests, winning 3-2 and 4-3. Shortstop Tara Knudsen went 4-for-6 on the day with a homer and three runs batted in. She had the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh in game one. Freshman Jessica Sallinger (18-7) struck out nine and allowed just four hits to earn the win in game two.
Knudsen leads the Jackets in most offensive categories, including average (.401), home runs (14) and RBI (45). Catcher Lindsay Wood, who added to her school record for single-season doubles with two against Mississippi State on Thursday, is also having a solid season (.264-5-19).
Tech dropped both games to the Bulldogs in Starkville, Miss., 7-4 and 3-0.
The Gamecocks also proved to have some pop in their bats, hitting three home runs in the earlier doubleheader with Tech. JSU now has 31 homers on the season, compared to 27 for the Jackets. Andrea Tomey and Breanne Oleman each have seven to pace the team, while Renee Hasan leads the Jacksonville State lineup with a .324 average.
Veronica Davis (13-5, 1.02 ERA, 128 K) and Tera Ross (14-5, 1.88 ERA, 83 K) top a pitching staff that sports a 1.44 team earned run average.
Following Saturday’s action, Tech makes its final road trip of the regular season to Samford for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, April 24.
