Tech Softball Hosts Jacksonville State Tuesday

ATLANTA – After a hard-fought 2-3 record at the FAU Worth Invitational, the Georgia Tech softball team (9-4, 0-0 ACC) returns to action Tuesday when the Jackets host Jacksonville State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Glenn Field.

After three consecutive one-run losses, including a 1-0 defeat to No. 21 Florida Atlantic, Tech battled back with a 2-1, nine-inning, win over Rutgers on Sunday.

Statistically, sophomore shortstop Tara Knudsen continues to lead the Jackets with a .463 batting average. She also has a team-best three home runs and 14 runs batted in. Senior third baseman Jamie Frost is hitting .324 with a homer and eight RBI.

Tech also continues to impress with a 0.98 team earned run average. Freshman Jessica Sallinger leads the team with a 5-2 record and 65 strikeouts in just 45.2 innings pitched. Opponents are only batting .141 against her. Sophomore Erin Voeltz is 2-2 and owns a 0.79 ERA.

The Gamecocks enter the game with a .289 team batting average, led by Rachel Countryman, who is batting .409 with four home runs. JSU starter Veronica Davis leads the team with a 0.31 ERA and a 4-0 record.

Tech returns to tournament play this weekend when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge, which runs from Friday to Sunday.
