Tech Softball Heads to Troy State Wednesday

March 12, 2002

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (18-6, 0-0 ACC), winner of 10 of its last 12 games, heads to Troy State (18-6) Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The Jackets are coming off a 5-2 trip to California, which included a win over No. 17 Iowa and a last-inning victory over Long Beach State. Troy State has won 12 of its last 14 games but dropped its most recent outing, a 4-0 loss to Auburn.

The Jackets are 4-9 all-time against the Trojans, including a pair of losses at Glenn Field a year ago.

Tech is led by sophomore shortstop Tara Knudsen, who was named ACC Player of the Week Monday. She owns a .468 batting average with five home runs and 23 runs batted in. Sophomore center fielder Sara Wissmann is also hitting well, having driven in eight runs last week.

Following these games, Tech hosts Princeton for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Glenn Field Sunday.
