Tech Ranked No. 14 by Athlon

May 15, 2007

The Georgia Tech football team is ranked No. 14 in the nation by Athlon Sports preseason magazine, which hits the newstands May 29.

Athlon tabbed Tech punter Durant Brooks as a preseason first-team all-America.

Brooks was joined on the magazine’s preseason all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team by running back Tashard Choice, linebacker Philip Wheeler, tackle Andrew Gardner and safety Jamal Lewis. Center Kevin Tuminello and defensive end Adamm Oliver made the second team, and safety Djay Jones was on the third team.

Tech returns 17 starters after winning the ACC Coastal Division last fall and playing in its 10th consecutive bowl game, a 38-35 loss to West Virginia in the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day. The Yellow Jackets posted a 9-5 record in 2006 for their 10th straight winning season.

The Jackets open the season Sept. 1 at Notre Dame, while the home schedule includes Clemson, Virginia Tech, Boston College, North Carolina and Georgia. Applications are currently being accepted for new season tickets. Click here to buy tickets.
