Jan. 11, 2008

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (14-2, 1-1 ACC) plays host to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami (8-9, 1-1) Sunday, Jan. 13. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Tech fans can follow all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. The game will also be available to view on ACCSelect.com.

“Miami just had a big win over Clemson so we expect them to have a lot of confidence coming in on Sunday,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “We understand the importance of protecting our home court. I expect some great leadership from our seniors.”

The Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes will meet for the 12th time overall and the ninth time since the 2004-05 season. The Jackets have taken four-straight from the Hurricanes, including all three meetings last season culminating with a 66-52 win in the first round of the 2007 ACC Tournament.

Senior Janie Mitchell continues to lead the team in scoring (17.1) and rebounding (6.8). Freshman Alex Montgomery has contributed 10.6 points and 6.4 boards in her first season on the Flats. The Tacoma, Wash. native is also the team’s leading shot-blocker with 17 and is second in assists with 37.

Tech enters the game on a 17-game home win streak after defeating Wake Forest, 57-47, Thursday evening. The Jackets’ defense held the Deacs to 0-of-15 on three-point attempts and 37.5 percent shooting from the field.

The Jackets will next travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a meeting with NC State on Thurs., Jan. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
