ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams dropped an Atlantic Coast Conference dual meet this afternoon to nationally-ranked Florida State in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The men fell by a score of 138-101, while the women dropped a 143-86 decision. Both Yellow Jacket squads fall to 3-5 on the season.
Leading the men’s team were divers Paul McCarty (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Tony Burkhardt (Phoenix, Ariz.). McCarty took first place on the one-meter springboard with a score of 284.10, while Burkhardt tallied a score of 303.45 to capture the three-meter diving event.
Also claiming first-place honors for the Jackets was Jeremy Raines (Americus, Ga.). Raines swam the 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.28.
Leading the women’s team was Laura Heiser (Sinking Spring, Pa.). Heiser won the 200 breaststroke for the second consecutive meet with a time of 2:31.84.
Georgia Tech will travel to Clemson, S.C., for another ACC battle against Clemson on Saturday, Jan. 24. The conference dual meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
