Tech Falls to #25 Wake Forest

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (9-6, 0-1 ACC) fell in its first conference match of season 6-1 to No. 25 Wake Forest.

Overall, Tech finished 1-2 in doubles and 5-1 in singles play. Despite the losses, the Jackets had grit against a talented opponent.

Tech’s lone doubles victory came from the Keshav Chopra and Rohan Sachdev. The two Jackets started the match out with a dominating performance over Wake Forest’s Jurabek Karimov and Luciano Tacchi, earning an impressive 6-1 win.

No. 85 Chopra also claimed Tech’s singles victory after Wake Forest’s No. 95 Karimov had to retire from the match in second set (7-6 [7-3], 2-3).

In singles play, several Jackets challenged the Demon Deacons to three sets of competition. No. 34 Andres Martin and Elias Shokry put up strong fights against their opponents. Martin rallied back with a victory in his second set against Wake Forest’s No. 37 Melios Efstathiou before falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Shokry also earned a comeback in his second set before losing the match 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 in the tiebreak set to Wake Forest’s Matthew Thomson.
