ATLANTA – For the first time since November 29, 1989, the Georgia Tech and University of Georgia women’s basketball teams will meet on the court in Athens when they do so Sunday afternoon in a game that will be televised live on CSS at 2 p.m. The Jackets can also be heard on the Georgia Tech ISP Sports Radio Network, 91.1 FM in Atlanta, and online at www.wrek.org.
Tech and Georgia will be meeting for the 28th time in history, as the Bulldogs hold a 25-2 lead in the series. The Jackets have come on strong of late, however, defeating UGA in two of the last three contests, including the first game at either campus since 1989 a year ago.
The Jackets held off a late Georgia rally to down the `Dogs 55-49 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum behind a 16-point performance by junior Stephanie Higgs last season in what turned out to be Tech’s first win over a ranked opponent since defeating Georgia two years earlier.
The Jackets enter Sunday’s contest with a 5-0 record after stopping Georgia State at the GSU Sports Arena Wednesday evening, while Georgia is 4-2 on the season following a win over Middle Tennessee State this past week.
Following the game against the Bulldogs, Tech will return to action this coming Friday when it hosts San Diego in a game that begins at 7 p.m.
