Earning the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA baseball field of 64, Georgia Tech will host Jacksonville State, Texas Tech and Mississippi State in the NCAA Atlanta Regional, Friday through Sunday, June 4-6, at Russ Chandler Stadium on the Tech campus.

Tech (41-19), the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season champions and the No. 1 seed in the Atlanta regional, opens against Ohio Valley Conference champion and No. 4 seed Jacksonville State (31-27) Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Friday’s other first-round matchup, scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, pits No. 2 seed Texas Tech (38-19) of the Big 12 against Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State (34-22), the No. 3 seed

The regional continues Saturday with games slated for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday’s championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m., with a second game to follow, if necessary, 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

The winner of the Atlanta Regional will be matched up with the champion of the Athens Regional, hosted by Georgia and also featuring Clemson, Birmingham Southern and Middle Tenneessee State, in an NCAA Super Regional, scheduled for June 11-13 at a campus site to be determined.

Georgia Tech has earned its 19th NCAA bid in the last 20 years and is making its 21st NCAA appearance overall. The Jackets made an early exit from last year’s regional at Russ Chandler Stadium after advancing to the College World Series in 2002.

“We’re very excited for our players and our fans to have a chance to host another regional at Russ Chandler Stadium,” said Tech head coach Danny Hall, who has led the Jackets to the NCAA Tournament in 10 of his 11 years in Atlanta, including two CWS berths.

“To earn a top-eight national national seed is key because you know that if you win the regional, you have a chance to host a super regional.

“When you get to this level, everybody has either won their conference or played extremely well throughout the year,” continued Hall. “Only the best teams get in, so they’re all capable of playing well. You’ve got to try to win one game at a time and not worry about who you’ve got down the road. The fact that we stubbed our toe last year in the regional has served as great motivation for us all year, and now we’ve got another chance to prove ourselves.”

Tech enters the NCAA regionals as one of the nation’s hottest teams, winning a school-record 20 straight games before losing twice to Florida State in the ACC Tournament.

“We had a great run to end the regular season and then a great run for three days at the ACC Tournament,” said Hall. “We just came up on the losing end the last two days, but now we’ve got something else to look forward to.”

Tournament ticket books for the NCAA Atlanta Regional are on sale now at www.ramblinwreck.com and can be also purchased in person at the Georgia Tech Office, Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or at the gate, beginning Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium, which was rebuilt in 2002 and now seats 4,157, is hosting an NCAA Regional for the third straight year and the sixth time since 1987. Tech has hosted a total of seven NCAA events, including Super Regionals in 2000 and 2002.

Along with Georgia Tech, 2004 NCAA Regionals will also be hosted by Arkansas, East Carolina (Kinston, N.C.), Cal-State Fullerton, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana State, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Mississippi, Rice, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas and Virginia.
