THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis finished the first day of the MLK Invitational on Saturday, securing two wins overall on the day against No. 16 Illinois.
Playing two doubles matches for the Jackets was Andrew Li and Daniel Yun, and Elijah Melendez and Chris Yun. Li and D. Yun suffered a 6-2 setback before the tandem of Melendez and C. Yun fell in a hard-fought 6-3 decision.
C. Yun was the first singles match to finish. He raced to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Aiden Jiang. C. Yun was followed up quickly by Elijah Melendez, who battled hard to take down Vuk Budic, 6-3, 6-1.
Li dropped a tough-fought match to Zeke Clark, 6-2, 6-4, before D. Yun fell to Caleb Chakravarthi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Carlos Divar also fell in his back-and-forth affair, one of the toughest matches of the afternoon. Illinois’ Alex Brown defeated Divar, 7-6, 6-4.
Tech will back on the courts Sunday when it faces No. 23 Columbia at 2 p.m. UGA and Illinois will battle at 9 a.m.
