Tech Clinches Syracuse Series in Game Two, 4-2

THE FLATS โ€“ย Georgia Tech softball (22-9, 4-7 ACC) clinched its second straight ACC series with a 4-2 victory over Syracuse (17-11, 1-7 ACC) on Saturday at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets never trailed throughout the game as they took the lead in the bottom of the third and contained the Orange throughout.

Senior second baseman Bailee Zeitler led the Jackets through the day at the dish, going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Junior hurlers Chandler Dennis and Blake Neleman controlled the circle through the game as Dennis notched her sixth win of the season after tossing five innings and picking up three strikeouts while Neleman earned her first save on the year after tossing the final two innings.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Georgia Tech climbed aboard first in the bottom of the third with an RBI single off the bat of sophomore designated player Sara Beth Allen. The Yellow Jackets added two more scores in the following frame, beginning with a leadoff double by Zeitler. The upperclassmen made her way to third, allowing senior outfielder Ariella Jackson to step in as a pinch hitter and drive her home with a single through the left side. Freshman left fielder Auburn Dupree then reentered on the basepath, stealing second and later making her way home on a double steal to move Tech further in front, 3-0. Syracuse narrowed the White and Goldโ€™s lead down to one with solo home runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but the Yellow Jackets added one more score as Dupree slapped an infield single to score Zeitler. Tech retired Cuse in order in the top of the seventh, sealing its 4-2 win and clinching its second straight ACC series.
