ATLANTA – Georgia Tech is ranked 22nd in the 2002 Collegiate Baseball Pre-season poll, marking the 10th consecutive season that the Yellow Jackets have been rated as one of the top 25 teams in the country to start the season.
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 2001 season in which they won 40 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in the last 18 years. Pre-season All-America catcher Tyler Parker and shortstop Victor Menocal headline 15 returning letterwinners.
Stanford was ranked as the No. 1 team in the pre-season, followed by Florida State, Tulane, USC and LSU. A total of four teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference were voted into the Top 25, including No. 2 Florida State, No. 6 Clemson, No. 16 Wake Forest and No. 22 Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2002 season on Feb. 15 when they face Tennessee Tech in what will be the first game played at the newly rebuilt, 4,500-seat Russ Chandler Stadium.
