ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (15-2, 2-1 ACC) opens a treacherous part of its schedule with a trip to NC State (12-5, 0-2) this Thursday, Jan. 17. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
Yellow Jacket fans can follow all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. The game will also be available to view on ACCSelect.com.
“NC State is a very good basketball team, especially at home,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “We are road-tested and our players understand how to win away from home. The two teams are very similar on the court. This game will be a great match-up.”
The Jackets will meet the Wolfpack for the 56th time in the history of the two programs. Tech has won five of the last eight meetings between the two rivals, including the Jackets 69-62 win over NC State at Alexander Memorial Coliseum last season.
Tech enters the game with its best-ever record to start the season after coming from behind to defeat Miami, 68-65, last Sunday. The Jackets went on a 23-9 run over the final six minutes highlighted by an Alex Montgomery three-point basket at the buzzer to give Tech the win.
Senior Janie Mitchell continues to lead the team in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg). Montgomery adds 10.6 points and 6.2 boards. The freshman is also the team’s leading shot-blocker with 20 and is second in assists with 39. Junior Jacqua Williams leads the team and the Atlantic Coast Conference in steals with 65 on the year.
After the game, Tech will continue north for a Sunday, Jan. 20 meeting with No. 4 Maryland. Tip-off at the Comcast Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
