Tar Heels Sting Lady Jackets, 85-62

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 13) – Junior LaQuanda Barksdale scored a game-high 20 points to lead a balanced North Carolina attack as the Tar Heels downed Georgia Tech, 85-62, in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball action Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Auditorium.

Barksdale led four players in double figures for the Tar Heels (13-11 overall, 5-8 ACC). Juana Brown, Nikki Teasley and Jackie Higgins all added 11 points each for Carolina.

Sophomore Alex Stewart led the Yellow Jackets (12-11, 5-8 ACC) with 14 points.

The Tar Heels opened the game on a 10-0 run and shot 69.2 percent (18-of-26) in the first half to take a 47-25 lead at halftime. North Carolina stretched its lead to 30 midway through the second half, but the Jackets cut the Tar Heel lead to 14 with 4:03 to play.

North Carolina shot a season-high 56.9 percent (33-of-58) for the game, while Tech shot just 38.9 percent (21-of-54).
