GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech volleyball duo senior Gabriela Stavnetchei and freshman Cori Clifton were named to the 2017 all-ACC academic team as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the all-ACC academic team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.
Stavnetchei, an outside hitter from Curitiba, Brazil, had the best season of her career. She was named to the all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team and the AVCA all-region team. The economics and international affairs major led the ACC in total kills from September on, finishing the season with 467. Averaging 4.35 kills per set in league matches, she led in that statistic in conference play and ranked third in points per set at 4.63.
As a freshman Clifton played in 29 matches, making 14 starts. The biochemistry major recorded a career high five block assists twice against Syracuse and Wake Forest. In the Jackets’ win over North Carolina, Clifton posted a career high 18 kills, to help Tech snap the Tar Heels five-match winning streak over the Jackets.
