ATLANTA — Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson was not surprised by anything he saw at the Yellow Jackets’ first session of spring practice today at Rose Bowl Fields, Tech’s on-campus practice facility.
“Ragged” is how Johnson described Monday afternoon’s two-hour practice in cold and windy weather. “It was about what you would expect with so much being new to the players,” Johnson said.
“When you are in shorts and helmets, you don’t get the pace I’d like to see. But that will come.”
Today was the first of 14 practice sessions leading up to the April 19th Spring Game. The Yellow Jackets will practice on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays leading up to the conclusion of spring drills.
The majority of Monday’s practice was spent on fundamentals and the very basics of the Yellow Jackets’ schemes.
Notes:
– Junior linebacker Shane Bowen (shoulder), junior offensive tackle Cord Howard (foot), junior A-back Jason Davis (foot) and junior offensive lineman Brad Sellers (knee) are all recovering from injuries and are expected to miss all of spring practice.
– The coaching staff is taking a look at a number of players at new positions and are far from making any final decisions. For now, however, junior Greg Smith is working at an A-back position and former wide receiver Willie White is practicing with the defensive backs.
