Solomon, Williams Named ACC Performers of the Week

March 20, 2018

THE FLATS – The Atlantic Coast Conference honored twoGeorgia Tech track and field student-athletes in its weekly award as Nahom Solomon and Jeanine Williams were named co-Performers of the Week on Tuesday.

Solomon opened the outdoor season with a blistering time of 3:44.28 in the ultra-fast invitational 1500m event to set a new personal record and finish fourth overall on opening night of the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Solomon’s time was the second-fastest time by an attached collegiate performer in the race, finishing only behind UGA’s Bryan Kamau.

Kamau and the Snellville, Ga. native’s times currently rank No. 1 and 2 in the nation and region while Solomon sits atop of the ACC.

Coming off an ACC indoor hurdles championship, Williams wasted no time in going after top marks nationally on the second day of the Yellow Jacket Invite. Handily taking gold in the first 100m hurdle event of the season, Williams won the event by 0.39 seconds to finish with a time of 13.19. The performance is good for second-fastest in the nation, as well as tops in the NCAA East region and the conference.

The time is also the fastest 100m-hurdle time by a Georgia Tech student-athlete at the annual Yellow Jacket Invitational meet since all-American and two-time ACC Champion Dana Rogers in 2005 when she ran a 13.27 to win gold. Williams’ time beats out two Tech standouts in two-time ACC Champion and all-American Fatmata Fofanah (13.35 – 2005) and national champion Shantia Moss (13.25 – 2007).

The Yellow Jackets will try to continue their hot start to the outdoor season when they travel down to Tallahassee for the Florida State Relays on March 23.
