WALNUT, Calif. – Senior Nahom Solomon once again etched his name in the Georgia Tech track and field record book on Thursday night, breaking the school record in the 10K with the fastest collegiate time at the 2018 Mt. SAC Relays in California.

The senior Yellow Jacket ran a 29:07.98 PR to obliterate the previous 10,000m record by more than 14 seconds, eclipsing the mark set by D.J. McMillan (29:22.45) in 2012. The historic performance led to a sixth-place finish in his heat and seventh in the division but top time overall by all collegiate runners – finishing 1.38 seconds ahead of next-fastest college runner.

Solomon’s time also enters the performance lists as the second-fastest in the ACC this season, seventh-fastest in the NCAA East Region and 18th-best mark in the nation.

The Snellville, Ga. native continues his quest to become one of the greatest long-distance runners at Georgia Tech, extending his incredible year in which he’s already broken three other school records. Solomon broke the two-year-old indoor 3000m record by more than two seconds at the Iowa State Classic before becoming the first Yellow Jacket to run the 5K in under 14 minutes, breaking the 15-year-old indoor record in the process.

In the senior’s first trip to the West Coast of the outdoor season, the 46-year-old 5000m record fell at the Stanford Invitational when Solomon ran a 13:51.92.

His impressive track and field year only arises from his equally remarkable cross country season where Solomon became the first Georgia Tech student-athlete to be named an all-American since 1994. In his final race after leading the team in every competition over his final two years, Solomon ran the fastest time by a Yellow Jacket in 23 years at the NCAA Championships.
