TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Nahom Solomon will advance to the NCAA Championships after pacing Georgia Tech men’s cross country to a 12th overall finish with his seventh-place finish (30:18.4) in the 10K race at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa.

Mary Prouty led Georgia Tech women’s cross country to a fifth-place finish, placing 22nd with a 20:39.3 time in the 6K race.

Both Solomon and Prouty’s performances were impressive enough to earn them all-South Region honors.

“It was a great day for Georgia Tech cross country,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “The highlight, of course, was Nahom qualifying for the national championships as an individual. He was outstanding today and fought hard for every place. Our program will be represented next week in Louisville and we couldn’t be more proud of the season that Nahom has had.”

Drosky continued, “The women’s team capped off an outstanding season with a strong fifth-place finish. Mary was terrific, earning all-South Region honors. Nicole and Amy were close behind but just missed earning all-region honors as well. Mary Claire and Haley were awesome too.”

The women tallied 186 points overall, just 57 points behind fourth-place ACC foe Florida State and 13 points Auburn. The women also finished ahead of 12 of the 16 regionally ranked teams in the field, not including Georgia Tech – Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, Jacksonville, Lipscomb, Belmont, UAB, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss.

After Prouty, freshman Nicole Fegans finished 28th with a time of 20:48.9 while Amy Ruiz placed 29th with a 20:49.2 time. Mary Claire Solomon (21:19.1) and Haley Anderson (21:22.5) rounded out the Jackets’ top 5, finishing 54th and 60th, respectively.

The men finished with 308 points overall, 46 behind Belmont and eight points ahead of regionally ranked UT-Martin.

“While the men’s team finish was disappointing and not representative of the season we have had, I am proud of them,” Drosky said. “Their attitude coming in was second place or bust. In the first third of the race, we put ourselves in position, but paid a pretty big price for it late in the race.”

Behind Solomon, Tech saw fine finishes from Matt Munns (32:30.4) and Alex Grady (32:43.8), who finished 56th and 65th, respectively. Frank Pittman finished 95th with a 33:20.0 time while Christian Bowles finished with a 107th-time of 33:37.4.

Solomon will don the White and Gold once more when he heads to NCAA Nationals in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 18.
