Softball To Play Penn State Today At 5:30 At Kennesaw State

March 8, 2011

ATLANTA – Winners of five straight games, the Georgia Tech softball team (12-4) begins another busy week as it travels up to Kennesaw, Ga., for a 5:30 p.m. game against Penn State (7-5). This is a make-up game from this past weekend’s Buzz Classic. The Nittany Lions will already be there playing Kennesaw State at 2 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 3-0 performance at the Buzz Classic this past weekend in Woodstock, Ga. Tech had a couple of games rained out as bad weather caused several schedule changes over the weekend. The Yellow Jackets beat Jacksonville State (4-3) and Evansville (18-1) on Friday and then closed out the weekend with a 8-0 win against UAB on Sunday night.

Kristen Adkins continues to lead the pitching staff as the senior from McKinney, Texas is 6-2 with a 0.99 ERA. She has 48 strikeouts in 49.1 innings, two complete-game shutouts and is holding opponents to a .223 batting average. Sophomore Hope Rush is 3-2 with a 1.66 ERA and .219 opponent’s batting average.

At the plate, Rush is batting .412 with four home runs and 13 RBI as seven Tech starters are batting at least .300. Freshman Alysha Rudnik is hitting .408 with four homers and 10 RBI while junior Shannon Bear continues her hot start. The Grayson, Ga. native is hitting .382 with one home run and 10 RBI.

The Yellow Jackets are hitting .336 as a team and have hit 23 home runs.
