THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team wraps up its 2014 fall slate against the National Pro Fastpitch’s (NPF) USSSA Florida Pride on Nov. 8 at Mewborn Field at 12 p.m. Admission to the game and parking are free, and following the match both teams will sign autographs for fans who bring memorabilia.
The USSSA Florida Pride swings through the state of Georgia as part of its annual Fall Tour, playing at six colleges in November throughout the Southeast.
Georgia Tech is the second stop of the six universities on the tour schedule for the Pride. The five-time ACC Champion Jackets have a rich history of NPF players including Jessica Sallinger, Caitlin Lever, Aileen Morales, Savannah Brown, Kelsi Weseman, and 2014 All NPF member Ashley Thomas. Former USSSA Pride player and current Akron Racer Charlotte Morgan is currently an assistant coach for Georgia Tech.
The back-to-back NPF Champions will take on the University of Georgia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, UAB, Mercer, and Wallace State as part of their exhibition schedule. Additionally, in conjunction with USA Elite Select, the Pride players will take part in various softball clinics and team up with 18U USA Elite Select showcase teams to compete and take part in community events throughout Georgia and Alabama.
Pride players participating in the game against Georgia Tech include two-time NCAA National Player of the Year and Canadian Olympian Danielle Lawrie, two-time USA Olympian Kelly Kretschman, 2013 NPF Offensive Player of the Year GiOnna DiSalvatore and the 2014 NCAA batting champion Courtney Ceo.
Other Pride players include Bridgette Del Ponte (Arizona), Amanda Kamekona (UCLA), Jordan Taylor (Michigan), Cassie Tysarczyk (Texas A&M), Megan Willis (Texas), Breja’e Washington (Texas), Kristyn Sandberg (Georgia), Angeline Quiocho (Brigham Young) and Cassidy Bell (Penn State).
