THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball head coach Aileen Morales signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to be added to the 2018-19 roster.
“This is an exciting time for our program and the coaching staff as we announce our first recruiting class at Georgia Tech,” said Morales. “These athletes not only excel on the softball field, but also in the classroom. They have an inner drive to compete at the highest level possible and each plays the game with great energy and passion.”
Maddie Billings joins the Yellow Jackets from Woodstock, Ga. The right-handed infielder lettered for four years under Coach Victoria Carter at Etowah High. In high school, she helped lead her team to the regional championship title and the state championship finals in 2017. Her personal accolades include first-team all-region in her junior and senior campaigns. She was a Junior Olympic Cup Champion in 2016 and was invited to participate in the Georgia Dugout Club’s all-state game on Saturday. Intending to major in biochemistry, Billings was given the Superintendent’s Key Scholar-Athlete Award.
Morales on Billings: “Maddie swings a big bat and hits for a ton of power. We look forward to seeing her rack up RBIs once she arrives on The Flats next fall.”
Hailing from Pikesville, Md., Ari Jackson joins the Yellow Jackets after three successful years at Pikesville Senior High School. Lettering for three years, Jackson served as a captain for all three years. Jackson helped lead her high school team to three district championship titles in 2015, ’16 and ’17, and regional championship titles in 2016 and 2017. She was also a two-time state semifinalist in 2016 and 2017. Her personal accolades include three all-division and all-county selections (2015-2017). She also holds the all-time hits, RBI, and home run records for Pikesville Senior High.
Morales on Jackson: “Ari is another big bat who will help improve our offensive production. She is able to play both infield and outfield which will give us extra depth defensively.”
A local student-athlete from Atlanta, Ga., Hannah Turnbull joins the Yellow Jackets after a successful high school career at Parkview High School. Lettering all 4 years at shortstop, Turnbull helped her team win the regional championship title in 2016, and appear in back-to-back elite eight appearances in 2016 and 2017. Her personal accolades include first team all-county and all-region in 2016 and 2017, and an all-state selection in 2016 and 2017. She set the career-hits record for Parkview and has been selected to participate in the Georgia Dugout Club’s all-state game.
Morales on Turnbull: “Hannah is a strong middle infielder with solid offensive numbers. Her athleticism will allow us to improve our defense on the infield as we look to be one of the strongest defenses in the country.”
From Canton, Ga., Bailee Zeitler comes to The Flats following a successful career at Sequoyah High School. In the 2016-17 season, Zeitler was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected to the first team all-region and second team all-county. Playing at catcher and shortstop, Zeitler was invited to compete in the Georgia Dugout Club’s all-state game this November.
Morales on Zeitler: “Bailee is another middle infielder who will provide more depth and versatility for us. She plays the game hard and competes with intensity.”
