ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Softball Team is ranked 13th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Preseason Poll, released on Tuesday. Since the inception of the NFCA poll in 1995, this is the highest preseason ranking for the Yellow Jackets, who are one of three ACC teams ranked in the top 25.

The Yellow Jackets will play 13 games against eight teams ranked in the preseason top 25 including No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Florida, No. 7 Georgia (twice), No. 12 California, No. 15 Northwestern, No. 19 North Carolina (three times), No. 23 Florida State (three times) and No. 24 Louisiana-Lafayette. In addition, Tech will face seven more teams who are receiving votes in Nebraska, Iowa, Kentucky, Hawaii, Texas A&M, BYU and Houston.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off their best season in program history. They finished 13th in both the final NFCA and ESPN.COM top 25 polls as well as 12th in the RPI, all of which were program highs. Tech advanced to a Super Regional for the first time ever and won both the ACC regular season and tournament title.

Georgia Tech opens the 2010 season Feb. 12-14 at the USF-DeMarini Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Jackets will play game against Long Island, No. 3 Florida, Canisius, Florida Gulf Coast and South Florida on opening weekend.
