Softball Hosts Virginia Tech In Regular Season Finale

ATLANTA – This weekend, the Georgia Tech Softball team play host to Virginia Tech in its final regular season games on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m. at Mewborn Field. Prior to game one of Saturday’s doubleheader Tech will honor the six members of the senior class.

Tech’s senior class is comprised of Shannon Bear, Danielle Dike, Caroline Hilton, Kate Kuzma, Jessica Sinclair and Kelsi Weseman. The senior class has already accumulated three ACC Regular Season Championships, two ACC Tournament Championships, and three-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament including the Jackets’ first time hosting a Super Regional in 2009 during their time at Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets and the Hokies have met 29 times in the past with 17 of those coming under the tutelage of Sharon Perkins. Georgia Tech holds the 17-12 advantage, 10-7 under Perkins’ guidance. The Jackets have won two-straight and six of their last seven over Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech has won its last three games, taking the final two games of its series with Virginia and earning a 5-0 victory over Radford on Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets have dropped their last four games, the final two against Florida State and two against North Carolina by a combined five runs. The loss at Florida State (April 15) was the first for Tech since March 22.

Kelsi Weseman leads all Tech hitters with a .367 average, .722 slugging percentage and .574 on base percentage. Weseman has blasted 10 home runs this season and is just two away from tying Jen Yee for second place in career home runs in the record books.

Courtney Liddle leads all Hokies with a .303 batting average, having played all 51 games for Tech. She has netted seven home runs and seven doubles for a slugging percentage of .515 and has drawn 39 walks on the year. Jasmin Harrell is the ace on the mound for the Hokies holding a 24-11 record and a 1.84 ERA.
