Softball Cruises Past Kennesaw State, 6-1

ATLANTA – Junior Kelsi Weseman went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI and freshman Lindsey Anderson pitched a one-hitter as the No. 25/23 Georgia Tech softball team (32-6) beat Kennesaw State (20-17), 6-1, Wednesday night at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets pounded out 10 hits in the game and have now won 25 of their last 27.

For the second straight game, freshman Lindsey Anderson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning only to see it broken up. With one out, Sharon Swanson hit a solo home run to left field breaking up the no-no and the shutout with one swing of the bat. Anderson improved to 6-0 with the win and settled for a one-hitter. She walked one and struck out nine. In addition to Weseman, junior Danielle Dike also added two hits for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning, Freshman Alysha Rudnik led off with a single and tried to score on a double to the wall in right-center field by senior Kristine Priebe, but was thrown out at the plate. Priebe went to third on the throw and scored two batters later on a single through the left side by junior Jessica Sinclair.

Junior Kelsi Weseman made it a 3-0 game in the third inning when she launched her team-high 12th home run of the season over the fence in right-center field. Senior Christy Jones, who walked to lead off the inning, scored ahead of Weseman.

The Yellow Jackets added another run in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. With runners at the corners and one out, freshman Ashley Thomas stole second base but the pitch went to the back-stop and freshman Hayley Downs scored from third.

Weseman added a two-run double down the right-field line in the sixth inning making it 6-0 Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech heads back out on the road this weekend for an ACC series at Virginia Tech. The Yellow Jackets and Hokies will play a doubleheader Saturday at Noon and then close out the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Live audio and stats will be available at RamblinWreck.com.
