Shoulder Injury Sidelines Slayden for the Remainder of the 2004 Season

March 2, 2004

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech junior outfielder Jeremy Slayden will miss the remainder of the 2004 season with a torn rotator cuff.

Slayden, Tech’s starting right fielder who has made 133 career starts since 2002, will undergo surgery next week in Birmingham, Ala., by Dr. James Andrews on his right (throwing) shoulder.

“I really feel bad for Jeremy,” said Tech coach Danny Hall. “Not being able to play is a major disappointment for him and for our team. Both he and I were expecting a big season in his draft year.”

A preseason All-America selection for the 2004 season by Baseball America, Slayden was hitting .286 with one home run and a team-high eight RBI through the first nine games of the season. A career .320 hitter, he set a Tech freshman record with 18 home runs in 2002, and he leads all active players with 27 career home runs.
