Shaw, Prouty Lead Multi-PR Effort at Penn Relay Opener

THE FLATS – En route to five PRs, Georgia Tech outdoor track and field began its busy weekend with a strong showing from its distance team at the Penn Relays on Thursday night.

Leading the effort was Tanner Shaw in the 10K. Shaw ran a 30:36.12 PR to finish eighth overall, shaving more than 23 seconds off his previous best.

Sam Costa also set a personal record of his own in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:15.60 to record the 13th-fastest time in the ACC this season. Alex Grady also ran a 9:13.54 on the day for his second conference qualifying time of the season.

In the 5000m, the men’s team were represented by Christian Bowles and Matt Munns, who both finished in the top 25 with ACC qualifying times. Bowles raced to a 14:16.70 PR – good for 14th-fastest in the ACC – while Munns turned in a personal-best time of 14:21.47 to record a top-20 conference time as well.

Mary Prouty cut almost 10 seconds off her previous career-best 5K time, turning in a mark of 16:57.24.

In the distance medley event, Georgia Tech took ninth as Amy Ruiz (3:29.29), Kendria Edouard (57.44), Haley Anderson (2:11.46) and Nicole Fegans (4:58.21) finished with an overall time of 11:36.39.
