Seven Finalists Highlight Jackets' Big Second Day at ACCs

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Junior Avery Bartlett led the pack as Georgia Tech track and field qualified seven into the finals on the second day of the 2018 ACC Outdoor Championships on Friday night.

In the men’s 800m prelims, Bartlett advanced with a first-place time of 1:48.56 while Andres Littig turned in a season-best 1:49.60 to finish sixth overall and also qualify for Saturday’s finals.

Jeanine Williams and senior Kenya Collins then continued their stellar year in the 100m hurdles, both earning a spot in the finals. Williams finished second overall with a time of 13.24 while Collins qualified with a 13.57 eighth-place finish.

After dominating the ACC rankings all season, the men’s 400m squad represented the Yellow Jackets well, earning three finalists on the evening. Benjamin Jean took third place with a time of 46.94 before Daniel Pietsch (47.11) and Ty Brooks (47.42), finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

To finish out the night, senior Hailey Gollnick turned in an almost a five-second PR in the 3000m steeplechase. She finished sixth with a career-best time of 10:24.99 to earn second-team all-ACC honors. Senior Courtney Naser fell just outside the top-10 at 12th, running a 10:52.37. Senior Alex Grady then finished ninth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, turning in a season-best performance of 9:06.70.

In the field, William Solomon was able to record a 12th-place leap of 7.03 meters in the men’s long jump, while Dasia Smith finished in the top 20 of the women’s long jump, hitting a mark of 5.60 meters.

Angelica Henderson and Domonique Hall both finished in the top 20 of the women’s 400m while Haley Anderson turned in a season-best performance in the women’s 800m, finishing 14th with a time of 2:09.83.

Georgia Tech returns to action for the final day of the ACC Outdoor Championships. Their first field event is the women’s triple jump, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tech’s first running event is the women’s 4x100m relay, which is currently slated to begin at 5 p.m.
