May 17, 2012

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Junior pitcher Hope Rush and senior third baseman Kelsi Weseman of the Georgia Tech softball team were named to the All-Southeast Region Second Team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Associational Thursday.

The honor is the third for Weseman who was named to the second team in 2010 and the first team last season. Rush earned All-Southeast first team honors during her freshman season in 2010.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

The 2012 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 30, on NFCA.org.

The 2012 ACC Player of the Year, Weseman finished the regular season leading Georgia Tech and the ACC in many categories. Her .381 batting average, .773 slugging percentage, .582 on base percentage and 12 home runs led the team and the league. She also drew 34 walks, two of the intentional variety, and was hit by 14 pitches.

Her 25 victories this season, combined with her 40 from her first two seasons as a Jacket currently places her in third place on the school’s career list with 65 wins. At the plate, Rush batted .306, during the regular season, second on the team, had a .560 slugging percentage, and an on base percentage of .447 to go along with 10 homeruns and 30 walks drawn.
