Reid Blasts Georgia Tech Past Pitt

Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Junior right fielder Stephen Reid tied the program record with three home runs on Sunday to power Georgia Tech baseball to a crucial series win over Pitt, downing the Panthers 15-3 at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (28-19, 10-14) would get a whopping six RBI on Sunday from Reid, as he also hit an RBI single in the seventh to finish his 4-for-5 day. Jake DeLeo also tied a school record, hitting three doubles on Sunday for a 3-for-5 day. Drew Compton also finished with two hits and Kristian Campbell and Demitri Diamant hit two-RBI doubles.

The big moment of the game came in the sixth inning when Reid, Angelo Dispigna and John Giesler hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to open the flood gates.

With both teams fighting hard, Tech’s pitching was able to keep the Panthers (21-24, 9-13 ACC) off the scoreboard, holding them to 16 batters left on base. Starter RHP Jackson Finley got into trouble early as an unearned run scored against him in the first, but he would pitch out of it to only allow one more run over his 3.1-inning day, striking out five.

RHP Ben King (5-0) then came in to earn his fifth win of the season, going 2.2 innings of no-hit work, while striking out three overall. RHP Terry Busse then surrendered just one run on two hits in 2.0 innings with the game out of reach before LHP Cody Carwile closed the door with a scoreless ninth to give Tech the series.

Pitt was led by Sky Duff, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. RHP Kyle Mosley (1-6) took the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

Georgia Tech will now head out on the road for five straight, beginning on Wednesday, May 10 against Kennesaw State. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
