GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coming off a record-setting performance in the 5000 meters on Saturday, Georgia Tech junior Kyle Rabbitt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week Monday, as announced by the league office.
A native of Red Oak, Ga., Rabbitt posted a time of 14:14.48 in the 5000 meters at Boston University’s Terrier Invitational. This mark eclipsed a 17-year-old school record and provisionally qualifies him for the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March 14-15. His performance also ranks as the ACC’s fastest this season by more than one minute.
Rabbitt, who sat out last fall’s cross country season, has had a stellar start to the indoor track campaign. He has set career bests in both the 3000 and 5000 meters. Rabbitt opened the season with a win in the 3000 (8:15.76) at the Kentucky Invitational on January 18.
Tech’s men’s and women’s teams, who already have a combined five NCAA provisional qualifiers, return to action Saturday at the Carolina Fast Times Meet in Chapel Hill, N.C.
