Quartet of Jackets Bound for 2018 NCAAs

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving will have four members in Christian Ferraro, Caio Pumputis, Moises Loschi and Matt Casillas represent the Yellow Jackets individually at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships from March 21-24 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ferraro qualified for the NCAAs with a school record 200 fly time of 1:41.26 last weekend at the 2018 American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas. His NCAA A qualifying mark ranks 12th nationally this season.

With NCAA B times of 46.65 in the 100 fly and 1:47.23 in the 200 IM this season, Ferraro will also get a chance to compete in those two respective events at the NCAA Championship meet as well.

Pumputis will take part in three events for the Jackets at the NCAAs, as the first-year Tech swimmer will compete in the 200 breast, 100 breast and 200 IM events. The Brazil native qualified for the 200 breast with his NCAA B time of 1:53.45, which he recorded at the 2018 ACC Championships. He will also swim in the 100 breast (54.45) and 200 IM (1:45.46) events at the national championships.

Making his third NCAAs and participating in his second-straight championship meet, Loschi will swim in both the 100 and 200 breast events. The senior qualified for the 200 breast with his season-best time of 1:43.23, an NCAA B cut time that ranks 21st overall nationally. The 200 breast school-record holder will also compete in the 100 breast where he turned in a season-best time of 53.06 this season at the ACCs last month.

Casillas qualified for the men’s platform today, March 7, as he finished sixth overall in the event at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships with a combined score of 672.53 over 12 dives. In the event, he posted a score of 349.70 over his first six dives in the prelims to earn a spot in the finals where he turned in a score of 322.65 over his final six attempts.

This season, Casillas recorded a career-best score of 367.40 on the platform at the 2017 Georgia Tech Invitational in November.

The 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held on March 21-24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
