THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis head coach Rodney Harmon has announced that Alexis Prokopuik has signed a national Letter of Intent to join the Yellow Jacket program beginning in the 2014-15 season.
“Alexis is a five-star player,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “She is one of the best players in Canada and represents Canada in a lot of international competitions. We are excited about her coming down and having her represent the Yellow Jackets. We are really happy that she is joining our program.”
Prokopuik was the winner of the U16 Canadian National Championships and a member of the Canadian Jr. Fed Cup Team that played in Mexico in 2012. She is also a member of the Canadian Junior Tennis Team. Prokopuik won seven consecutive titles at the BC Provincial Championships.
During the Western Canada Summer Games, Prokopuik took home gold, both individually and with her team. From 2006-2012, Prokopuik went to Canadian Nationals with Team BC, winning one title and recording two third place finishes. In the last six Canadian Nationals, Prokopuik has finished in the top eight.
Currently, Prokopuik is ranked as the #266th player in ITF juniors. In the Tennis Canada rankings, Prokopuik checked in at #2 for the U18 age bracket. She was tabbed a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net.
Prokopuik was the 2013 North Shore Sport Award Junior Athlete of the Year for North Vancouver, B.C. She was also named the 2012 TennisBC Female Player of the Year. In 2010, she was honored with the John William Award for sportsmanship and performance and the Morgan Backhouse Award.
