Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson
Opening Statement…
“We can’t seem to get out of our own way. We had a chance to take the ball on the first series and go right down the field and score. Then, we got them third-and-long, let them convert and they went down and scored. We took the ball back down the field and got a chance to score on the goalline. [We] turned two guys loose, missed assignments and fumbled the ball, so instead of us being up 14-7, they go 99 yards and they’re up 14-7. [We] put together a little drive, got it going a little bit, then [after] a couple first downs we let them just take the ball out of our hands and run for a touchdown, [then] it’s 21-7. It’s kind of the way the season’s gone.”
“We don’t value the ball very much. Four turnovers to none, you’re not going to win many games. Then, probably not a real good call on the reverse pass, although we were about 20 yards behind them. It was poor execution. Then, the other interception—I have no idea about that one. We just kind of swung it down the middle. I think the receiver stopped. Disappointing, got one left. Try to go back, correct the mistakes. It’s like a broken record—same old, same old.”
On Matthew Jordan’s performance at quarterback…
“I thought he did okay. He did some good things. But, you have to value the ball. He made some critical mistakes. We got forced and he pitched it on the ground a couple times when he shouldn’t have. There was a couple times he should have pitched it [and] he didn’t. But, I think he competed. He went out there and played hard and competed.”
On if he anticipated ball security being an issue entering the game…
“No I didn’t, but it was that kind of day, too.”
On if he saw anything from physical mistakes, including fumbles and dropped passes…
“No. Never. I’ve never had anything like this. I don’t have any answers for you. I know people are frustrated, I’m frustrated.”
