COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Yellow Jacket pitchers Jessica Sallinger and Erin Voeltz limited Maryland bats to one run and four hits over 14 innings as the Georgia Tech softball team (29-16, 3-1 ACC) swept a doubleheader Sunday from Terps (11-13, 0-4 ACC) at the Terrapin Softball Complex. The Jackets won game one, 5-1, and took the second, 1-0. Tech has now won seven in a row versus Maryland.

In game one, Sallinger (16-10) went seven innings, allowed one run, one hit and three walks for her 16th win. She fanned 10 Terps for her 11th double-digit strikeout game of the season. Sallinger has now tossed six one-hitters in 2003. She also worked the first three innings of the second game before handing off to Voeltz, who improves to 10-4 with the game two win. Voeltz allowed just one hit and one walk over the final four innings.

In the sixth inning of game one, senior second baseman Felicia Coursey doubled to center to plate two and close out the scoring in a five-run inning for the Jackets. Before Coursey’s double, center fielder Sara Wissmann, catcher Lindsay Wood and designated player Tasha Waugh each had run-scoring base hits for the Jackets. Additionally, shortstop Tara Knudsen and right fielder Soraya Reddick both doubled in the inning as Tech sent nine batters to the plate and tallied six hits, including four doubles, in the frame.

Maryland took a 1-0 lead the first game when pinch hitter Lauren Pollock ripped a two-out, bases-loaded single up the middle that hit Sallinger. The ball ricocheted to second, and Pollock beat the throw at first, allowing first baseman Jillian Calloway to score on the play. The base hit by Pollock was the only hit of the game allowed by Sallinger as she had loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batters.

Coursey and Reddick each had two hits to lead the Jackets at the plate.

Aditays was the game one loser as she went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs and five hits. She also walked two and struck out six.

In game two, Wood put the Jackets on the board in the second with a RBI single to left. The hit scored Reddick, who started the rally with a single to right that Maryland’s Crystal Tweedy misplayed, allowing Reddick to take third.

One run would be enough for Voeltz and Sallinger, who went three innings and allowed no runs on two hits. She also struck out three and walked one. Sallinger has just allowed one run 19 innings against the Terps this season. Maryland starter Monica Cyphert (6-7) worked seven innings and allowed just two hits and one unearned run. She also walked one and fanned six Jacket batters.

Tech closes out its 10-game road swing Wednesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Georgia Southern. Tech defeated Eagles 7-2 on February 16.
