ATLANTA (Nov. 12) – Senior outside hitter Dominique Phillip tallied a match-high 20 kills Friday night for Duke as the Blue Devils defeated Georgia Tech in four games, 15-8, 15-13, 8-15, 15-1.
After dropping game one 15-8, the Jackets (16-12, 6-9 ACC) won the first ten points of game two, before seeing the Blue Devils (13-12, 7-8 ACC) win 15 of the last 18 points en route to the game victory.
While Tech rallied to take the third game, Phillip led a punishing Blue Devil charge in game four, with eleven of her 20 kills coming in the fourth game. Phillip converted on 11 of 14 attack attempts in the game which Duke dominated 15-1. As a team, the Blue Devils hit for an amazing .688 percentage in that fourth game.
In the defeat, junior outside hitter Teryl Townsend, who contributed 17 kills and hit for a team-high .293 hitting percentage, led the Jackets.
Regular season ACC play will conclude for both teams on Saturday night, as the Jackets host Wake Forest in a 7:30 p.m. contest at O’Keefe Gymnasium, while Duke travels to Clemson.
Following tomorrow evening’s contest, the Jackets will head to the 1999 ACC Tournament in Orlando, Fla., with play commencing on Thursday.
