May 3, 2004

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Micah Owings was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading the Yellow Jackets to a doubleheader sweep at NC State on Sunday.

Owings pitched seven strong innings against NC State in a 6-1 Tech victory. The right-handed sophomore carried a shutout into the eighth after allowing just three hits through the first seven innings. For the game, Owings gave up one run on five hits while striking out eight Wolfpack batters. The Gainesville, Ga. native allowed just two NC State hitters to advance past first base in picking up his second straight decision and sixth win overall in 2004.

Owings, who also serves as Tech’s regular DH, went 4-for-8 at the plate in the doublehader. He earned ACC weekly honors for the third time in 2004 after being named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 16 and ACC Player of the Week on Mar. 22.
