Nyman Wins 5000m at Yellow Jacket Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field program began the outdoor season today by hosting the first day of competition of its Yellow Jacket Invite.

Among many great performances today, Nick Nyman was a standout with his first-place and personal-best time of 14:24.16 in the men’s 5000m. He was joined in the top 10 by second-place finisher, Joey Sandel (14:42.63), Jack Voss (14:47.38) in fifth and Chris Cherono (14:54.22) in seventh place. On the women’s side, Erin Fegans placed second with a time of 17:50.70.

The mid distance and distance squad also experienced success in the 1500m. In the women’s event, Mary Brady (4:29.54, PR) took home second, Helena Lindsay placed fourth (4:32.93, PR) and Kayla Rose (4:35.42) came in sixth place. The men were led by Joshua Williams (3:53.36, sixth) and Charlie Smith (3:54.25, ninth).

The Jackets performed very well in both long jump events. Cameron O’Neal won for the men with a mark of 7.43 meters (24-4.5). On the women’s side, Jill Catton placed third (5.38m/17-8) and Attallah Smith took home fourth (5.36m/17-7).

In the women’s track events, Sheleah Harris placed second in the women’s 100m (11.61) and Taylor Grimes came in third in the women’s 100m hurdles (14.03).

Jamir Gibson competed in the men’s shot put and hammer throw. Gibson took home second place in the shot put with a mark of 17.06 meters (55-11.75).
