No. 6 Women’s Tennis Travels for Pair of Matches

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s team will head to Texas this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches. The No. 6 Jackets open competition on Saturday facing Cornell before meeting No. 9 Texas Tech on Sunday. Both matches are slated to start at 1 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.

THE SCENE: The Jackets will look to get back to winning ways this weekend, currently on a two-match skid. After a loss at Northwestern, Tech returned home for a brief stint to host No. 31 Miami, falling to the Hurricanes, 4-3. The Jackets conclude non-conference action this weekend in the Lone Star State.

Cornell returns to action after nearly a three week break, carrying a 6-5 record. The Big Red are winners of three of the last four outings and this weekend will serve as the final tune-up for Cornell before conference play begins. Freshman Cheyenne Lilienthal leads the Big Red with a 7-4 record in singles play.

Texas Tech, which plays Cornell before meeting the Jackets on Sunday, boasts a 9-2 record as the ninth-ranked team in the nation. The Lady Raiders have already met two ACC foes this season, falling to North Carolina, 4-1, and picking up a 4-0 victory over NC State. Texas Tech has taken its last four matches, 4-0.
