No. 6 Tennis Dominates Pittsburgh, 4-0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis opened a pair of ACC road matches on Friday defeating Pittsburgh 4-0 at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center. With the win, Tech improved to 16-2 overall and 6-0 in ACC play.

DOUBLES ACTION: Playing to clinch, the Yellow Jackets quickly handled the Panthers in doubles action, taking the first two matches to finish. Competing on court three, the Tech duo of Johnnise Renaud and Nami Otsuka cruised to a 6-3 victory over Gabriela Rezende/Natsumi Okamoto before Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones clinched the point from court one. The Jackets took home a 6-4 triumph over Amber Washington and Callie Frey to give Tech the early match lead.

SINGLES PLAY: Tech claimed the first set in singles play on five courts, but only needed three wins to clinch the match. Wrapping up first on court three, Renaud captured her 14th dual singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Rezende before Nadia Gizdova defeated Okamoto on court six, 6-3, 6-0, to give the Jackets a 3-0 match lead. Jones clinched the match for Tech on court four, edging Frey 6-2, 6-2.

QUOTABLE: “We played well in doubles today. Johnnise, Kenya and Nadia played very well in singles. We are looking forward to a tough match on Sunday against Syracuse.” – Head Coach Rodney Harmon

UP NEXT: The Jackets face a quick turnaround, visiting Syracuse on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match at the Drumlins Country Club.
