THE FLATS – Following a series sweep of Boston College and a 10-10 ACC regular season, the Georgia Tech softball team earned the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 North Carolina (38-18, 13-8) in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

The contest is set for Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Florida State’s JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla. and will air live on ESPN3. The Yellow Jackets and defending ACC Champions took one of three games from the Tar Heels earlier this season on April 21.

“It’s good for us because we just faced them not long ago,” Georgia Tech head coach Sharon Perkins said. “It’s a little bit tougher sometimes if you faced somebody earlier in the year, but with just seeing them a couple weekends ago, we are excited going into the week. We know what we’re going to see and who we’re going to face.”

Florida State (39-15, 18-2 ACC) enters the championship as the No. 1 seed after wrapping up its first regular season title since 2004. The Seminoles will take on eighth-seeded Boston College (14-37, 2-19) on Thursday at 5 p.m.

All seven tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN2, ESPN3, or the league’s regional sports networks (RSN). Thursday’s first two games at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. will be carried by both RSN and ESPN3, with the night games at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3. Friday’s semifinals will be on RSN at 1 and 3:30 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 6 p.m. can be seen on ESPN2.

Tickets are available for $5 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under for each day. ACC students with a valid school ID get in free. For more information on the 2013 ACC Softball Championship, visit http://theacc.co/SBChamp.
