ATLANTA – After a 12-8 ACC regular season, the Georgia Tech softball team has earned the No. 3 seed and will face off against No. 6 Virginia (26-24, 8-13) in the first game of the ACC tournament Thursday, May 10 at Noon. The game will be broadcast live on RSN.
The Yellow Jackets (33-21, 12-8) finished third after taking two of three games from Virginia Tech in their ACC series finale on April 28 and 29 to earn the tiebreaker over the Hokies.
The Cavaliers began their ACC season with a sweep of the Yellow Jackets back on March 10 and 11 but went on a seven-game skid after that series and won just five more ACC games in 2012. The Hoos were swept by Florida State, North Carolina and Maryland down the stretch.
North Carolina (40-12, 13-4) grabbed the top seed in the tournament by taking two of three at Boston College (23-29, 3-18) in the final weekend of the regular season as Florida State (45-13, 16-5, ranked 20th in the latest USA Today/NFCA poll, dropped two of three to Maryland (34-19, 10-8). The Tar Heels will rematch the Eagles this weekend while the Seminoles take on No. 7 NC State (23-30, 5-15) and Maryland will face Virginia Tech (38-18, 12-8).
