No. 27 Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Blanks Boston College

pre> Senior Marko Rajevac won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the No. 27 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team picked up its fifth straight conference victory with a 7-0 defeat of Boston College Thursday afternoon. With the win, Georgia Tech improves to 10-8, 4-6 ACC while the Eagles drop to 6-16, 0-10 ACC.

The match began with Georgia Tech winning the doubles point, taking all three positions. The Yellow Jackets began the afternoon with a win at No. 2 as Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath combined to win 8-2 over Jason Sechrist and Alex Rastorgouev. Tech then clinched the point with a win at No. 1 as Marko Rajevac and David North broke Boston College’s serve at 6-6 to win 8-6 over Soma Kesthely and Sam Wagner. In the final doubles match, Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani won at No.3 over Brian Hartness and Michael Reiser, 8-3.

The Jackets then pushed their lead to 3-0 as Rajevac won at No. 1 singles over Kesthely, 6-2, 6-1 and then seconds later North won his fifth straight singles decision, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 over Hartness.

Blackmon then clinched the match at No. 5 singles as he defeated Wagner in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

The lead became 5-0 when Rath picked up a win at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Rastorgouev.

Tech’s next win came from Gvelesiani, who broke an 11 match losing streak with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7) win at No. 6 singles over Reiser.

In the final match of the afternoon, Delass held on for a win at No. 2 singles over Sechrist, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday when they close out their home schedule for the 2006 season against Maryland at 3 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
