ATLANTA – After a mid-week game with Georgia State, the Georgia Tech softball team will return to the diamond at the Buzz Classic on Friday, March 2 to be held at the Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock, Ga. Tech’s first game will be at 5 p.m. Friday.
The tournament will feature 16 teams from all over the country to compete in 41 games over the course of the weekend.
The Jackets will begin the tournament with a 5 p.m. game against Winthrop on Friday night. Tech boasts a 19-13 all-time record against the Eagles, and are 5-1 under head coach Sharon Perkinswith the only loss dating back to March 20, 2008. Tech has won the last five games in the series.

On Saturday, the Jackets will take part in a 1 p.m. meeting with Western Kentucky followed by a 4:00 p.m. showdown with Tennessee-Martin. Tech and WKU have met just one time in the past, a 3-0 victory at the 2009 Buzz Classic. Tech and UT-Martin have seen each other four times in the past, with the Jackets holding a 4-0 series lead , 3-0 under Perkins. The first meeting between the two teams was at the Buzz Classic, but when it was hosted in Marietta, Ga. back on March 23, 2001.

Sunday will see games at 10 a.m. and Noon vs. Southeastern Louisiana and Elon. Tech and SELA have met just one time in the past, a 3-1 loss at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La. back on Feb. 18, 2001. Tech and Elon have met twice in the past, both at tournaments, with the Jackets holding the 2-0 series lead. The first game between the two teams was a 4-3 win by Tech at the Georgia Tech Round Robin in 1999 followed by a 6-3 win at the Triangle Tournament in Raleigh in the 2000 season.
